In the early 1900's the architects and brothers, Charles and Henry Greene, of the Greene & Greene architectural firm, created the first craftsman bungalows here in Pasadena. In addition to these California craftsman bungalows from the Arts & Crafts Period (c. 1900 -1925), which include variations of the look such as the Prairie style and the Mission Bungalow styles throughout the Historic Highlands neighborhood, you also will find a stunning collection of 1920's Revival Period Styles. Among other things you will find:
The intricate ornamental woodwork from the Victorian Period (c. 1840 - 1900)
Symmetrical exteriors of the Colonial Revival Period (c. 1890 - 1930)
A plethora of styles from the famous 20th Century Revival Period (1920 - 1940) which includes such European-influenced structures as the Tudor/English Cottage Revival styles, the Spanish Colonial Revival style, Pueblo Revival Styles, Italian/Mediterranean Renaissance Revival Style and the California Monterey Colonial Revival style.
More modern structures can also be found including the classic mid 20th-Century California ranch style, which dates from 1930 to the 1950's.
The Historic Highlands has them all and many have been lovingly maintained or restored to their original beauty.
